“Office of Overseas Koreans and KOTRA Collaborate to Expand SME Global Market Entry”

Buyer Recruitment at Atlanta Korean Business Convention in April
Vision for ‘Hansang Economic Zone’ and 450-Booth Exhibition Announced

The Office of Overseas Koreans (Commissioner Lee Sang-deok) announced on the 28th that it will collaborate with the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) to support the global market expansion of South Korean small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

On the same day, Commissioner Lee visited KOTRA and introduced the objectives of the upcoming 23rd World Korean Business Convention (WKBC), set to take place from April 17 to 20 in Atlanta, Georgia. He discussed potential areas of cooperation with KOTRA President Kang Kyung-sung and emphasized that the convention aims to leverage the overseas Korean business network to assist SMEs in entering international markets. He requested KOTRA’s support in attracting global buyers through its overseas trade offices to ensure the event’s success.

The convention, which serves as a global business hub for Korean entrepreneurs, will feature a corporate product exhibition with over 450 booths showcasing top-tier SME products from South Korea. Commissioner Lee stated, “At this convention, we will declare the launch of the Hansang Economic Zone and present a vision for its development, focusing on tangible outcomes such as facilitating the overseas expansion of Korean SMEs.”

The Hansang Economic Zone concept envisions a comprehensive economic network encompassing Korean expatriate entrepreneurs and business professionals worldwide, integrating South Korea into a unified economic bloc. This initiative aims to facilitate free and dynamic activities in production, consumption, trade, investment, labor mobility, and supply chain development, strengthening cooperative responses to global economic challenges such as protectionism and supply chain disruptions.

KOTRA President Kang Kyung-sung affirmed the agency’s commitment, stating, “KOTRA will participate in the exhibition with its own booth and actively work to attract global buyers. Additionally, we will align our efforts with the Office of Overseas Koreans’ OK Biz advisory group and export support programs to actively assist South Korean enterprises in expanding overseas.”
