Korean-American Commissioner Lee Sang-Deok inspects World Korean Business Congress in Atlanta

April 17 Opens in Atlanta, Georgia
Economic Growth through the Korean-American Economic Circle

The Korean Overseas Korean Association (KOGA) announced on April 8 that preparations for the 23rd World Korean Business Congress (WBC) are well underway. The event will be held from April 17-20 in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. It will be hosted by the Korea Economic Daily-MBN and the Korea Federation of Small and Medium Enterprises, and organized by the Korean Overseas Korean Association, the Federation of Korean American Chambers of Commerce and Industry, and the Korean Overseas Korean Economic Organization.

Lee visited Atlanta on May 5-6 to inspect the exhibition center and accommodation facilities. “This will be the first year of building the ‘Han Sang (Korean Business) Economic Zone,’” Lee said, calling for the support of the Korean community for the success of the event.

The economic zone encompasses the Korean Chamber Network and the Republic of Korea. The concept is to ensure that production, consumption, trade, investment, and labor mobility are actively carried out in the region. It aims to grow the economy through protectionism and supply chain instability.

During the trip, Lee presented the flag to Lee Kyung-chul, president of the Federation of Korean American Chambers of Commerce in the Americas. “We will work together to make the Games a success,” Lee said.

Lee also received an Honorary Citizen of the State of Georgia from Georgia State Representative Sam Park. Rep. Sampak is the first Asian-American Democrat to serve in the Georgia legislature. Georgia is home to the headquarters of global companies such as Coca-Cola. Korean conglomerates such as SK Battery America and Hyundai Motor Company also have a presence in the state.

Prior to his visit to Atlanta, Lee traveled to Los Angeles (LA) on the second and third days to console the Korean community affected by the wildfires.

On the 4th, he held a meeting with Korean Americans in Houston, Texas, and listened to the major issues of the Korean community.
