HOUSTON — The City of Houston has officially proclaimed April 24, 2026, as “Korean American Chamber of Commerce USA (KCCUSA) Day” in recognition of the contributions of Korean American business leaders.
Houston Mayor John Whitmire issued the proclamation in conjunction with the 2026 KCCUSA General Convention, Board Workshop, and Innovative Growth Network (IGN) Conference, held in the city from April 24 to 26.
“Korean American Community a Driving Force Behind Houston’s Diversity and Economic Growth”
In the proclamation, Mayor Whitmire emphasized that “Houston is one of the most diverse and internationally connected cities in the United States, and its standing has been further strengthened by the contributions of the vibrant Korean American community.”
He also praised KCCUSA for “playing an essential role in advancing economic development, fostering entrepreneurship, and promoting international trade between the United States and the Republic of Korea,” recognizing the organization as a key bridge in bilateral economic cooperation.
IGN Conference Brings Business Leaders Nationwide to Houston
The proclamation coincides with the 2026 conference hosted by KCCUSA in partnership with its next-generation initiative, the Innovative Growth Network (IGN). The event drew business leaders, entrepreneurs, and emerging professionals from across the United States to explore new avenues for collaboration.
Mayor Whitmire noted that “this convention and conference provide a valuable platform to strengthen cooperation within the Korean American community and the City of Houston, reinforce business networks, and support innovative growth.”
The official proclamation further stated that “the City of Houston warmly welcomes KCCUSA and its distinguished members and recognizes the importance of this event in strengthening international partnerships and economic ties.” Exercising his mayoral authority, Whitmire formally declared April 24, 2026, as “KCCUSA Day” in the City of Houston, extending the city’s congratulations and welcome.
KCCUSA President Hwang Byung-gu expressed gratitude for the designation, stating, “We plan to organize an annual ‘Business Leaders Day’ event in Houston every April 24.” He added, “This is the first time in the Federation’s 45-year history that such a proclamation has been made. We will mark the occasion by bringing together Korean American business leaders from across the United States, including former presidents, as well as Mayor Whitmire and members of Congress, to celebrate with the broader community.”
